Earl Grey Ice Cream

Last year for Christmas my parents gave us an ice cream maker which is probably one of my most favorite gifts. We've definitely experimented with our share of unique ice cream flavors and so far we've discovered our favorite, made up recipe to be Earl Grey Ice Cream.
The base of the recipe is a simple vanilla ice cream that I got out of the booklet that came along with the machine. But mix in a little tea and you've got a whole new fun flavor.
Earl Grey Ice Cream
(Makes about 5 cups)
1 cup whole milk (I just use homo milk)
3/4 cup granulated sugar
Pinch of salt
2 cups heavy cream
1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
3 bags of earl grey tea (my tea had a hint of vanilla)

I start off with, whisk the whole milk (or homo milk) and the three bags of tea and warm everything up over the stove as if I was making actual tea. Make sure you mix a lot so you don't burn the milk. I like to rip open one of the bags so that I get the tiny specks in the milk and the ice cream. Cook for however long you want, the longer you cook, the stronger the earl grey comes through.
When that's done, in a medium bowl, whisk to combine the milk (with tea flavor, obviously take out the two other tea bags), sugar and salt until the sugar is dissolved.  Stir in heavy cream and vanilla.
To let the flavors properly blend you'll need to cover your mixture and refrigerate for 2 hours, or overnight. When it's finally ready give it one last stir to get the sugar off the bottom, turn on your ice cream maker and pour the contents in.
I always love leaving and coming back to see the liquid slowly freeze and turn into my soon to be tasty ice cream. This usually takes 20 mins to half and hour.

And that's it! Now enjoy your new delicious flavor, share or hoard for yourself. Either way you'll find it was worth making.

"Made up recipe" = the very best kind!

This just reminds me that I need to get an ice cream maker. THe upside to South Carolina is that I'll want to use it 10 months a year, haha.
