My Search for Red Hair

Every now and again I get this sudden urge to go to a salon and try something completely different with my hair, whether that be cutting it all of or dyeing it some new shade. This ultimately last only a few hours and I save myself a potential hundred dollars or more by waiting out the desire. But earlier this month the hair change urge came upon me again, only this time it hasn't left. This time my mind's eye had been seeing red. Perhaps it's because I secretly covet my husband's random strands of red hair in his beard or maybe I believe the color to be so enchanting that surely if I had locks of copper I'd be transformed into some whimsy frolicking lady. Regardless it's something I can't get off my mind and so maybe this time I'll actually surprise myself by caving in and going red.

Yet when I do my research and try to find a color that would "suit" me I'm faced with a
myriad of choices. Who knew red had so many variations? Well, probably most of you.

Here are a few shades I've decided I rather like.

A light but bright copper red! Stunning! I think it takes a certain skin tone to pull this one off and I fear I don't possess that tone.

A blondie red is super cute too!

I assume a deeper red like this would over all be a better fit. I like it but I fear the salon lady would take it more into a purply red which I see many brown haired gals, like myself, ending up with, which I don't like.

This shade seems almost like a happy compromise of the two. Hmmmmm

What do you think? Have you ever dyed your hair red? Tell me about your experience. I'd love some thoughts and or advice.

i just had my fav stylist dye my hair red again and I love it! I'm fair skinned and opted for a dark copper red with some brown lowlights. I also did the bright red copper before, and loved it too! I'll be posting some pics of it soon so maybe that will help you decide haha

Thanks GingerPeachT. I'll be checking out your blog every now and again to see your photos! I'm very interested to see this combination of copper red with brown lowlights. Sounds pretty! :)

You should totally go red!! I love the last picture - I think it would be a good starting point! Have you thought about doing one of those non-permanent 10 wash dye's that you can get for $10 at Walmart? Might be a good way to try out the colour without a huge commitment or price tag!! I've done them before and they work pretty well!

I have the same problem, I am despearte to dye my hair red again and to cut it shorter. Now it's brunette, but I am not crazy about it. I had it copper and burgundy for a long time, I love all shades of red. Go for it.

I'm the same way! I love to drastically change my hair up. I've been a red-head before, and really liked it! I like that first picture the best. I think you'll look great as a ginger!

Coming from a red-head enthusiast/hairstylist I'd saw go for the darker coppery red. It would look gorgeous! And yes, a lot of times darker reds tend to have more violet undertones. Just ask your stylist for a gold and copper based red as oppose to a violet/mahogany. I love love love being a redhead, even though I can't even pretend that it's my natural hue :).Good luck on the hair coloring adventures!

I love the first shade! I wish I could go red, but my skin has pinkish red undertones and I would look like a lobster all of the time! Haha. Good luck!

Oooh- I love read hair! I was a redhead for 4 years, the color of your first photo. It was so fun! People who met me during that time period were confused when I had my hair dyed back to the color of my roots to let the natural color grow out. They kept asking why I dyed my hair brunette! Ha! Good luck and I bet you'll look fabulous in any of these! :)

I like the first one best, it's beautiful! I've been fancying such a colour too but I'm not sure yet. Also I haven't found the perfect hair dresser yet, still testing different salons.
I dyed my hair red when I was younger and it ended up orange because I did it myself, eek....
I think the last one would look really good on you :)

My hair is naturally dark brown, and I went to a coppery/light brown/red last summer. I really loved how it turned out, and the color lasted better than I thought it would. The only bad part is that now my roots are grown out, and I don't want to spend the money to re-dye it, haha. I'm sure red will look great on you! Maybe the Bryce Dallas Howard color?
