What Are Your Thoughts on Slut Walks?

I don't know if you've heard about these new protests taking place in Canada and USA called Slut Walks, I've been reading about them a lot on online news sites.

In case you care to read up about it yourself here are some websites to check out,

Yesterday I ranted a bit to Jonathan about what I thought about people trying to reclaim a word such as "slut" and though I won't go into detail I'm just curious about what different people think.

One thing that bugs me the lost lately is how quickly people will jump on board with a concept after only hearing a youtube video, or a facebook statues (Which by the way is how this whole thing started) with out really digging in and doing their own thinking about it. It seems like North America so badly wants to protect our individual choices, no jugging, whatever turns your crank sort of lifestyle that it so quickly contradicts itself.

Now I'll just say that I do agree with the main idea of these walks. Women can not be held accountable if they are raped just because of the way they are dressed. It's the man who's the criminal and is not the woman's fault. That being said there seems to be a tone of people who just jumping on board, parading around down town Toronto or Boston wearing cloths made by the fashion industry and sex industry to sell sex. Often made with sex, with fetishes and fantasies in mind. So I don't get it. Why are they wearing cloths they bought at a lingerie store, tramping around town and saying, let's reclaim the word "slut" and give women the power display their sexuality when CLEARLY the very items they are wearing is what men drool over in porno and the very thing that causes the confusion over brain verses beauty.  And don't tell me that a women can dress showing her boobs so that she can display her sexuality and demand the respect from the people around when porno, sex filled music videos with women displaying only sex and not brains seem to the main content in a lot of our latest music hits.

I know there are probably many flaws in my thinking here so I'd love to hear other people's opinions.
